Intensive wet cleaning of Tartan tracks with our special cleaning machine
In contrast to many other providers, we clean using cleaning machines designed specifically for this purpose. Our special machines operate using the rotating jet, high pressure water process with four nozzles arranged in a criss-cross pattern for particularly effective and very intensive cleaning without any chemicals whatsoever.
With a maximum water pressure of 310 bars and up to 100 litres of water per minute, dirt doesn’t have a chance. The result is an extremely clean Tartan track, on which even the smallest particles of dirt have been removed. The difference in the colour of the Tartan surfacing after cleaning allows you to see the effect with your naked eyes. Even more important: Water-permeable surfacings once again allow water drain through after cleaning. This reduces the danger of accidents and prevents moss and algae from forming again quickly.
Many of our customers have this intensive wet cleaning done regularly once a year. The Tartan track lasts significantly longer, can be better utilized by athletes without accidents and is less susceptible to damage and abrasion. The frequency of this cleaning depends on the location of the Tartan track, the percentage of sun and shade and the landscaping. Our experts will be pleased to provide advice regarding practical cleaning intervals for your Tartan track.
How do we clean Tartan tracks?
Our team is completely mobile and arrives first thing in the morning with truck and cleaning machine to get an early start cleaning your Tartan track. If necessary we even get there the day before.
Our employees are completely independent, sleeping and eating in the truck. The only thing you have to do is provide us assess to the sanitary facilities at the sports arena and a sufficiently dimensioned water connection to ensure the Tartan track procedure runs smoothly (at least hydrant C connection for water).
Cleaning: Possible preparatory work
- Loosening up contamination - depending on the season and weather conditions, we may be able to start cleaning immediately. The perfect situation is a rainy day or when the Tartan track is already moist, because the moisture already starts to loosen up the soil. In dry weather it is necessary to pre-moisten the Tartan track to loosen up the dirt. Then we can start with the actual cleaning.
- Loose contamination - Depending on the degree of to which the track is soiled, it may be necessary to first remove loose contamination manually. This is established previously when the track is inspected.
- Damage – If open seams, fissures or damaged spots are visible on the Tartan track it is necessary to take a closer look whether or not normal cleaning with the machine is possible. For this reason, it is most practical to check the Tartan track ahead of time to exclude any damage or complications while cleaning with the machine.
How long does it take to clean the Tartan surfaces?
The time required for cleaning differs depending on the size of the facilities and type of Tartan surfaces. The weather is also relevant for the cleaning time. Whether it is raining or the sun is beating down at 95° F (35° C). Moreover, the distance between the hydrant and the surface of the sports arena is decisive as well as the pressure in the water line.
From experience we know that many sports arenas are equipped with an average of 4,000 - 6,000 m² of Tartan surfacing. For this we require approx. 2 - 4 days. Naturally it depends on the area; do you have a simple oval track or do you also have sprint tracks, approach tracks (broad jump and high jump) or even small playing fields to clean? The larger the total area and the smaller the subdivisions, the more time it will take us. Naturally the degree of soiling also plays a role. The rule of thumb here is: The higher the degree of soiling, the more time required for cleaning. And also: The smaller / weaker the water connection, the longer it will take to fill the tank and complete the associated cleaning.
As a reference for you, here are some typical layouts for sport facilities in Germany (DIN 18035) according to category. We have added the time window (approximate) we would need for cleaning all Tartan surfaces with our cleaning machine:
- Arena Type A (International Competitions)
1 Large playing field (natural or synthetic grass), 8 oval tracks (Tartan tracks), 8 - 10 Single tracks (Tartan tracks for sprints and hurdles), high jump, pole vault (approach areas with Tartan surfacing), broad jump and hop-skip-and-jump (approach areas with Tartan surfacing), discus and hammer throwing (concrete slab), spear throwing (approach areas with Tartan surfacing) shot put (concrete slab).
In a type A arena the surface area to be cleaned is approx. 8,000 m², for this we require approx. 4 – 5 days for average contamination.
- Arena Type B (Extra-regional/International Competitions)
1 Large playing field (natural or synthetic grass), 6 oval tracks (Tartan tracks), 6 - 8 Single tracks (Tartan tracks for sprints and hurdles), high jump, pole vault (approach areas with Tartan surfacing), broad jump and hop-skip-and-jump (approach areas with Tartan surfacing), discus and hammer throwing (concrete slab), spear throwing (approach areas with Tartan surfacing) shot put (concrete slab).
In a type B arena the surface area to be cleaned is approx. 6000 m², for this we require approx. 3 – 4 days for average contamination.
- Arena Type C (Some track and field activities, primarily training, school sports, clubs)
1 Large playing field (natural or synthetic grass), 4 oval tracks (Tartan tracks), 4 - 6 Single tracks (Tartan tracks for sprints and hurdles), high jump, pole vault, (approach areas with Tartan surfacing), broad jump and hop-skip-and-jump (approach areas with Tartan surfacing), discus and hammer throwing (concrete slab), spear throwing (approach areas with Tartan surfacing) shot put (concrete slab).
In a type C arena the surface area to be cleaned is approx. 4,000 m², for this we require approx. 2 – 3 days for average contamination.
- Arena Type D (Soccer, school sports, clubs, recreational sports)
1 Large playing field (natural or synthetic grass), 4 - 6 Single tracks (short distance Tartan tracks), high jump, (approach areas with Tartan surfacing), broad jump and hop-skip-and-jump (approach areas with Tartan surfacing), spear throwing (approach areas with Tartan surfacing) shot put (concrete slab).
In a type D arena the surface area to be cleaned is approx. 1,700 m², for this we require approx. 1- 2 days for average contamination.
The cleaning results count
We are convinced of the superiority of our cleaning machine and our cleaning process. That is why we guarantee excellent cleaning results at the conclusion. If the Tartan track isn’t clean yet, we are not through. In contrast to many other service providers who want to continue with a second, high cost procedure, we don’t stop until the cleaning results for the Tartan track are really top notch. This gives you, as the customer, a clear cost structure you can count on without any “hidden” costs sneaking in at the end.
Many of our customers are repeatedly surprised how effectively our cleaning machines work and are pleased how quickly the sport facilities can be put back into service. If we have piqued your interest, please contact us. We will be glad to provide expert advice.
